Learning from Mistakes
Mistakes cannot be avoided. Oftentimes, repeated mistakes are a necessary detour on the road to success. Success requires taking risks, and taking risks invites failure. But to risk is to grow, even when your plan backfires. A mistake that teaches a lesson sends a better runner into the next race.
We tend to learn more from failure than success. The sting of failure must not cloud the educational opportunity it presents. For every defeat, there is a victory waiting to be realized if you are willing to dissect what went wrong.
Mistakes and failures can be worthless if you deny the lessons they teach. Too often we repeat the same mistakes due to our own resistance for self-examination. Be humble and quick to forgive yourself. Anger gets in the way of learning and growing. You cannot go back and correct past errors, only move forward better prepared for the challenges ahead.
The cycle of progress is as follows:
Mistakes. Learning. Triumph. Different mistakes. Different learnings. New triumphs. And so on.
Enjoy the highs. Embrace the lows. And never stop learning from mistakes, both new and old.
