Quote of the Day — Grete Waitz on Overtraining

“Overtraining is wasted training.” — Grete Waitz

Overtraining is performing an amount or intensity of training for which the body of an athlete cannot adapt satisfactorily and which might harm rather than help fitness.

Conducting training that exceeds the body’s capacity to recover and adapt is wasted effort.

Don’t fall for the “More is always better trap.”

Optimal training for each athlete tends to follow the Goldilocks Principle: aim to do the right amount of training, never do too much — and if ever in doubt, do a little less.
