The First Time, It's Hard

“Mise en place is French for ‘put in place.’ Quality chefs have learned not to start cooking until everything is in place — they know a little upfront investment pays off by reducing a lot of friction over the long run.” | Wendy Wood, Good Habits, Bad Habits

The secret is not found in the ending, but in the beginning. Fools rush in. They act without any deliberation. The foolish mistakes activity for achievement. They don’t have the patience to look far enough ahead and end up squandering precious time, effort, and resources.

Patience proceeds the podium. Without preparation, success is impossible. Preparation takes persistence. To be persistent means having much patience. Champions are willing to do hard things during early their attempts. They know with enough practice difficulty disappears. When it starts to look and feel easy — winners know victory is near. Winners make it look easy — because in the end, for them, it finally is.

“The more difficult the path in the beginning, if survived, the more it transforms us in the end.” | James Carse, Breakfast at the Victory
